Anti-Bullying-&-Self-Assertion Techniques
Anti- bullying programmes are aimed at Key Stages 2 – 4 and are appropriately differentiated within these stages.

The programme lengths vary from 3 sessions to 6 sessions for each class/group of 10 – 34 young people. Our programmes help young people and their teachers learn about and deal with bullying.

What does the programme cover?

  • team building exercises

  • confidence building and assertiveness skills

  • drama, role-plays and scenarios

  • using real life experiences, problem – solving

  • Techniques includes: fogging; broken c.d; forum theatre; circle time

All programmes include 2 facilitators on site.

How do we work?

  • Preliminary meeting with school to tailor programme

  • Through demonstration, exploration, support

  • We draw on kid’s issues and resources

  • We break habitual boundaries & barriers

  • We explore patterns and behaviours that lead to bullying and being a victim

  • We use evidence-based practice, and we follow through sensitive areas

  • We offer safety and containment for a group to form – a space safe enough to discuss issues to work through

Facilitators are highly professional and are drawn from a wide range of expertise including:

  • Teachers

  • Drama and play therapists

  • PSHE experts

  • Assertiveness self-esteem trainers

  • Life Coach experts

  • Conflict resolution professionals

Life Skills Education believes that bullying in children is extremely destructive, both in its immediate and its longterm effects, and that we must take positive steps to eradicate it in our schools and institutions. We want young people to learn successful strategies against bullying and be encouraged to tell and see that telling works.

What is bullying?

  • Name calling, nasty teasing, threatening, making fun

  • Spreading rumours, being horrible about people behind their backs

  • Punching, kicking, pushing

  • Stealing or damaging other peoples stuff

  • Ignoring people, leaving them out of games or things you do to make them feel bad

  • Deliberate. Bullying hurts. Bullying is often about feeling powerful through making someone else feel scared or bad about themselves

  • Carried out over a period of time – it’s a constant ‘drip, drip’ effect

  • Hurtful, painful, dangerous and damaging

There are always consequences for the victim and the bully. Victims for example may lose confidence and be unable to concentrate, whilst bullies may learn that using aggression/violence is a good way of getting what you want or suffer as their problems are untreated.
